It's smooth sailing through aqua water reflecting the blue of the sky. Though the water is a little choppy, bespeaking a strong breeze, the sky is blue amidst cumulus clouds, and the day is a perfect one to be out on the water in a wooden craft. Zephyr, the artwork, invites the viewer to join the sailor in the sailboat and be part of this perfect day. There are no obligations to this day other than to keep the sailboat moving, to clip along at an adventurous pace and see the land go by. When that becomes too much, one weighs anchor and allows for a moment of calm and quiet, a time of thinking without having to concentrate on the movement of the boat, a reflective space in which to think great thoughts, or simply quiet ones. Zephyr is a reminder to us that life is an adventure, and like any adventure, it has its different moments. Some of those moments are of intense movement, quick action, physical prowess and skill. I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
