This is number forty-six of forty-six in the Canoe Lake Paddle as numbered along the path of the paddle. The pilgrimage was complete. The southern end of Canoe Lake was becoming increasingly narrow. I think this was the last cottage on the eastern shore before reaching the Canoe Centre. The Muskoka Chairs were still on the dock. The owners were apparently intending or at least hoping to return. The small aluminum fishing boat was pulled up and out of the water. There was still some winterizing to do but there was also still time before the snow fell.
There was not much more time before the rain would fall though. The tendrils of virga were stretching ever closer to the ground. That virga would soon be rain for sure. With less than a kilometre left to paddle, I would not get too wet. As it turned out the heavy rain showers started just as I was putting my canoe on the roof of my car. What a day it had been. I need to do that again.

A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
