CERRO GORDO CALIFORNIA

Cerro Gordo�s population soared to 2000 in the 1860s, following her rich silver strikes. Mexican by the name of Flores was the first to find the outcropping. That Cerro Gordo was perched nearly 9000 ft. high in the Inyo Mountains should have slowed down the rush to the �Fat Mountain�, but up, up, up they went, miner, prospector, business man, saloon keeper, gambler, dance hall girl and the riff-raff that follows a mining camp. They built their camp, their mines, their smelters and they produced bullion. The only problem was getting it down the long tortuous winding road. The bullion was cast into 80 lb. bars and it would by heavy to hold back, but Remi Nadeau�s freight lines solved it with his mule teams. Daily, some twelve or more �rump sore� mules to each wagon, held back the heavy loads all the way to the bottom. After the death of her mother, Evelyne was raised by two aunts. Her school years where spent in Los Angeles, where she excelled in the arts. After High School she went to live with her Aunt Kate in Iowa, where she attended college, and continued her education in art. Evelyne was born with the ability to paint.
