Slip Point Lighthouse on Clallum Bay in the Strait of Juan de Fuca was first lit in 1905 after years of wrangling over funding. Hans P. Score was the head keeper.
This lighthouse is no longer there, in its depicted form: now it is a white tower with an aero beacon rotating atop it.
This lighthouse building was dismantled by local people and the pieces used in their own projects. The lens is in a maritime museum at Clallum Bay. The lighthouse keeper�s home is now a jointly held venue of the sheriff of Clallum Bay and U.S. Coast Guard.
Washington state is famous for glorious flowers that can literally take over if not contained. Tending flowers has always been part of the charm of Washington State lighthouses.
My painting shows this pretty little lighthouse in full flower. Madrone are blooming high in the forest mantle, English laurel are semi-manicured, and the red rhododendrons are ablaze. White rhodies are sprinkling the McShane Fog Bel...
