Having established renown in both the publishing and art scene, Monnar Baldemor has also separately forged a path thematically and stylistically divergent from his father, the famous Manuel Baldemor – originally from Paete, Laguna.
While the elder Baldemor cavorted with pastel hues and rustic scenes, Monnar plumbed the depths of emotion and came up with stark images more akin to a meeting of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, and Ernst Degasperi. The anatomical distortions and abstract forms of this earlier period also call to mind Hieronymus Bosch’s disturbing renderings.
Monnar Baldemor was formally trained at the University of the East School of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 1989 – having majored in advertising. He further sharpened his skills through the continuous creation of cartoons in various nationally circulated publications. Monnar is also a seasoned art director, and is presently the design director for Women’s Journal.
