Alan’s work begins with the conventional, such as flowers, landscape, nature subjects, or a still life on a tabletop, and gives it an abstract spin, creating Photo-Abstractions: original photography which looks like abstract painting. Belonging to the field of pictorial art, it is available in a variety of sizes and media to complement any interior design. Although images such as these could be made by manipulating original photographs with an image editing computer program or even be produced solely on a computer, Alan uses only optical and chemical special effects to create his Photo-Abstractions. The optical originals are printed via scanning by a professional photographic laboratory using computer control, but with strict instructions to the lab to match the originals as closely as possible so that no electronic manipulation of the image occurs.
