Bert Wade took early retirement in 1990 from her 29-year writing/editing job with the Providence Journal and moved to Bedford County, Virginia, to help found an arts and cultural center in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She served for six years as executive director of the Sedalia Center before retiring again
At last she had time to pursue longtime interests in the visual arts. A child of the Depression and World War II, she attended schools that offered no art classes, which may explain why as a journalist she advocated for arts in education. She has taken classes offered by Sedalia, the Lynchburg Fire Arts Center, the Lynchburg Art Club and Beverly Street Studio School in Staunton. She is one of four partners in Studio 213 at Riverviews Art Space in Lynchburg.

Bert Wade joined Pixels on April 23rd, 2007.
