My earliest memory of art was sitting next to my dad when I was very young. Both of us had our canvas and drawing pad propped up on chairs. We were painting and drawing together. I believe that art is the only thing I have ever felt I could 'get right.'
Art is my therapy and it makes right my soul. The therapy in art comes more from the process of creating it than from the finished pieces themselves. Although I must say I do find great satisfaction in a well done finished piece!
Currently, I am spending time with people who suffer from Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia in order to help them discover their own talents in art. Since verbal communication is such an issue, it is both an outlet and a joy for them to use art to communicate with loved ones and caregivers. It can often 'make right their soul.' This makes me happy.
I also have an interest in digital photography. I use a Nikon D50 with an 18-55 lens and it makes taking a good picture very easy. I do this for fun -- although I have been known to take on projects such as book photography, field trip photos and portraits.
And then... there is Art Clay Silver. I am Level 1 Certified and teach Intro and Specialty classes. I enjoy doing special production pieces for fund-raising and for gifts. I am not one to 'dabble' as I prefer to have something or someone in mind before tackling a design. I am sure there are many more creative things I will get involved in -- it is only a matter of time.
