Like many others, I grew up feeling like art was a secret club that you had to be born into. It felt like it was none of my business. While snobbery and pretention do exist in the art world, I learned that most of that was in my head. I remember walking through the Louvre, in 1996, thinking that it would be a dream come true to be able to be an artist. I was really lucky to meet a handful of encouraging people in my 20’s, who let me in on a secret. Skill in art can be learned. Art can be for everyone. A few tips, some good books, and belief in one’s self can go a long way. I am very grateful to be on this journey and even more grateful for everyone who has encouraged me. Finally, I would like to give a huge thank you to my wife, Elizabeth. Without her support and encouragement, I doubt I would have gotten back into painting.
