Gayland Morris is from Albuquerque, New Mexico and is a visual artist, musician, writer and poet. As a visual artist, Gayland continues his lifelong work with acrylic and ink in an abstract form he calls ImprovArt. Gayland is a graduate of Platt College in San Francisco, where he studied fine art and computer graphics. Gayland moved to Northern California in 1984 and continues to work in the music industry, which has been his profession for over three decades. Painting is more of a necessity for Gayland than it is as an exercise of self expression. 'I view art more as a personal stimulus than a reflection of who I am, or just making a statement. I love viewing other artist's work and rather than viewing a particular piece for what it is, or what the piece is saying... I tend to try to understand what the artist was feeling as they were working on that particular piece. I hope this feeling is conveyed in my work, rather than the work itself.' Gayland's work is often considered 'psychedelic' because of his use of vibrant color and unusual images. 'I love color, bright colors and many of them. As far as the images themselves, they generally appear out of nowhere. For whatever reason, I can generally stare at any pattern and identify a face in that pattern. I see faces in walls, hillsides, shower curtains, flowers, dirt, everywhere really. And no, I'm not crazy! It's just something I've done since I was a child. I think the 'psychedelic' moniker really comes from visually suggesting the music I love, which is heavily rooted in 1960s Psychedelia.' Gayland's goal is to offer these images as affordable and at a reasonable price. 'There has been too many times in my life where I loved a piece, yet could not afford it. I don't want my work to fall into the same category. Sometimes, just having a small print of a work that I admire would be great! But most of the time that's not the case. I hope I can offer an alternative -- so if someone does want a piece of my work on their wall, they can have it at a very low price. I enjoyed creating the piece, why not allow others to enjoy it in their home as well. I love the pricing of prints on Fine Art America! It allows art lovers to purchase and bring home a piece that they enjoy. I know this, because I do it all the time!'
