Available are original paintings as well as fine art prints in various sizes and formats.
There are many things in the ever changing and evolving world that should not be overlooked and forgotten as a thing of the past simply because they do not require batteries. May I hope that if one of my paintings can serve to help even one person take a closer look and appreciate the beauty and importance of the wonderful creatures and the limited resources in nature, I may have made a difference on some level.
What started out for me as an experimental journey into the 'world of fine art', soon progressed into a seriously challenging and equally gratifying venture that developed into the paintings you see here today.
Born and raised in south Texas where much of the land is still wild and free and the people are still friendly. I learned early in life to study, respect and honor all things in nature. Learning to ride before I could walk gave me a special admiration for horses, so it comes as no surprise that my first attempts at acrylic paintings were of wild mustangs.
My artistic experiences include painting primarily with acrylics, enamels and my favorite - watercolors. I have always enjoyed working with other mediums and methods such as sketching with charcoal, molding clay, tooling leather, cutting and welding metals, and dabbling in pastels to name a few. Applying my experiences to all areas of art and experimenting with different ideas helps keep thing fresh and exciting.
Having over twenty years in the vast commercial art industry, in 1996 I started working with watercolors and began the venture into the “Fine Arts”. As reflected in my paintings, I get a lot of inspiration from wildlife and nature. My love for the outdoors along with a healthy respect for nature contribute to the styles and subjects I enjoy painting and photographing.
According to Wikipedia...
- Photorealism is the genre of painting based on using cameras and photographs to gather visual information and then from this creating a painting that appears to be photographic. The term is primarily applied to paintings from the United States art movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
- Hyperrealism is a genre of painting and sculpture resembling a high-resolution photograph. Hyperrealism is considered an advancement of Photorealism by the methods used to create the resulting paintings or sculptures. The term is primarily applied to an independent art movement and art style in the United States and Europe that has developed since the early 2000s
I find these realism styles to be very challenging as well as rewarding, especially using watercolor paints. I also enjoy mixing in the occasional 'image in the clouds' or some small hidden image in wood grain to spice things up a bit. Since I do enjoy painting these genres and the subject matter I prefer is typically the wildlife and nature that surrounds me, I take most of my own photos. I enjoy taking the photos of these wonderful models almost as much as I do painting them.
