I have always been fascinated by the colors of nature and living.a large part of my life along the southern CA coast, I was able to witness the beautiful changing colors of the ocean, the fiery sunsets,as well as the vivid greens of the vegetation. I was drawn to art since childhood,however it was only after I retired that I focused primarily on improving and developing my drawing and painting skills.
Fortunate to be living in an artist community of Laguna Beach CA , I was able to study under the famous tropical landscape painter Michael Hallinan.
I was also able to consult with several other local artists who lived in the area and to study art in the galleries and at the famous Laguna Beach Art Festival each summer. I was drawn to Tom Swimm's use of vivid colors, Ken Auster's landscapes,and Donita Lloyd's beautiful ocean landscapes, as I studied color, style, and techniques.
A few years ago my wife and I moved to southern Arizona where I continue to develop my drawing and painting skills. I took a series of classes at the Tucson Drawing Studio in a continuing effort to learn and improve. In an effort to lean about the art of the southwest I found a few artists online, like Cody DeLong and John Cogan, to study.
To me, painting is a never ending process of learning. It's the challenge of solving for X and the great feeling of accomplishment at the end when it all comes together!
