Statement by the Artist:
It would be difficult to image a life without time to paint. Surely as I must eat, I must paint. Art has been an important part in my life since my elementary school days in Baltimore, Maryland. I can remember the encouragement I received from my third grade teacher. It is amazing the lasting effect encouraging comments have, even into adulthood.
All around me are inspirations for paintings - shadows, alley ways, stairs, cats, clouds, everyday items around the house; everywhere I look I can see the possibility of a new painting. I like to create a scene that draws the viewer into painting, to become a part of it. Life is in the painting, and I want the viewer to experience the moment; the same moment that inspired me to paint it.
My goal in my work is to draw the viewer into the scene, whether a landscape, seascape or still life; inspiring memories of their own from similar surroundings in their lives.
Recently I have been drawn to paint still life, placing ordinary items in an arrangement to accentuate their form, and create a setting which compliments the items in a cohesive environment pleasing to the viewer.
After more than 45 years of painting, I continue to challenge myself. The learning and growing never stops, as each new work of art shows me not only where I am in my art, but where I want to go.
