His artistic ability was noticed at an early age from his teachers. Rick was predicted to be a professional artist by age 7. Growing up in central Wisconsin, he took part in outdoor activities regularly. His style is realism with a slightly surreal color palette. Each piece favors rocks and water as part of the design due to the appreciation of design and texture and depth. Rick draws inspiration for his style from childhood memories of being in the outdoors and individual studies with Morten Solberg, Mike Capser and Lee Mothes. He works mainly in acrylics and watercolor/goache.
He has been juried on the Portal Wisconsin website, numerous northern art shows and individual shows at galleries. Rick served as juror for the 42nd Annual Festival of Arts in Wausau in 2006.
