Russell has been passionate about photography since a small child. When young he came into the orbit of two great photographers, the late Laon Maybanke, a celebrity London portrait photographer in the early 1960’s, and the late Humphrey-Saunders, who had a studio in Russell’s home town. Maybanke was a master in square-format film whilst Humphrey-Saunders, then very elderly, still utilized 10x8 cherrywood view cameras from the 19th century with glass plates and sheet film.
