Shirley Ann Cone is an artist who currently lives in Renfrew, Ontario, since 2008, with her husband and two children. She feels fortunate that through her life she has been able to live in several provinces across Canada and experience its beauty.

As a young child, Shirley Ann has spent hours drawing, always preferring animals, and making their personalities come to life on paper or canvas. She started learning coloured pencil techniques, and worked with that medium for 20 years. More recently, she has branched into acrylic paints due to the strength of their colours and textures she can achieve.

Shirley Ann considers her art education as self-directed than self-taught. She has taken numerous courses over the years from Calgary University, Northmount Arts Centre, and many different workshops, to improve her techniques and create her own style. She considers her work a mix of realism with some impressionism mixed.

Shirley Ann also is an avid photographer. She spends many hours photographing subjects of interest and has developed a large amount reference material for use in her paintings. She has found that her photography is part of the creative process in developing her paintings.

At the young age of 13, Shirley Ann won place in an Ontario Heritage Art contest with a drawing of two horses pulling a wagon. She has had her work appear in a Colored Pencil magazine, and in 2009 she was profiled on CTV Ottawa’s program Regional Contact for her coloured pencil portraits and horse show photography.

Shirley Ann Cone joined Pixels on April 11th, 2011.
