New Game- Different Mediums (image Thread)

I already ran this by Abbie. We all work in different mediums and some of us work in multiple mediums so I thought it would be fun to play a game where we get to share our favorites. It's going to go like this. Post one of your own images done in the medium specified by the previous poster and suggest a different medium for the next poster. When posting an image please say something you like about that particular medium. All mediums welcome including digital and photography. REMEMBER: Only post an image in the medium the previous poster specifies, then you suggest a new medium for the next poster. 1 image per comment.

I will go first:

I am posting an Acrylic painting to get us started. I love acrylics for their vibrancy and immediacy. I also love how versatile they are.

Oils are (for me) so versatile. I cannot get the same feel for any other medium, although I have a few.

Just something about the smell, texture, way it goes on.... I just love it

I would like to see a digital art image done with no photograph start

I do quite a bit with digital images on Adobe Illustrator. Here is a folk art inspired pattern of chrysanthemums that I originally created to print on fabrics. I think it also looks nice on the products here.

For the next post I would like to see a beautiful watercolor. I really admire watercolors but I am no good at the medium myself.

A watercolor I did many years ago. There are different styles and techniques to use with watercolor. I didn't try to emulate any of them consciously.

For the next image, let's see an ink drawing!

An ink drawing from many years ago -- stipple technique, fine line, & wash. I love the versatility of tools I used in process, quill/nibs pens as well as technical, Staedtler pens, and various brushes.

Next up, let's see a glass mosaic.

Chuck Staley

These are created using images of glass... Otherwise, I don't know if there will be many glass art pieces.
When I had an antique store, I bought many stained glass windows from various dealers. Many from Scotland.

I'd like to see a pastel next.

"Autumn Evening Chatfield" is a pastel painting I did of Chatfield State Park. We have a lot of very beautiful state parks in Colorado.

Pastels have very rich color, and I love how I don't have much clean-up or set-up. It is also possible to use pastel without any solvents. All that makes them very portable.

Next post: Gouache

Shana Rowe Jackson

I like Gouache for plein air studies! It's great on the go, and easy to clean up. I did this one in gouache on Popham Beach in Maine, then added small details later with a bit of pastel.

I would like to see a graphite drawing next!

Carmen Hathaway

A graphite study created in a perspective/drafting course I realized was very necessary to my process. Invaluable learning experience -- made for being able to 'project' vanishing points, converging lines, etc. Took forever to stop seeing 'through' things LOL

I enjoy layering graphite -- and the incredible range of results one can achieve, blending, etc.

Let's see some ceramic/clay art...

Anyone have Ballpoint art?

Shana Rowe Jackson

I love ball point because of all the detail and range of shading I can get. Photography Prints

Next I would like to see an oil pastel piece.

Note: I love what everyone has posted, it's a great way to see how versatile each medium is! As mentioned, please let's keep it to different mediums. It's okay if we cover a medium more than once because everybody uses each medium differently, and please do not forget to suggest a medium for the next person!

This one is oil pastel -- or, I'm pretty sure it is. I think I painted "Summer Pasture" before I bought the other kind of pastel that I like better. I would post something about the nice qualities of oil pastel... but to be honest I really don't like them. Maybe they're less dusty than the non-oil kind, and of course if you paint in oils (I don't, much), oil paint solvents play well with oil pastels to get some interesting effects.

Shana... Popham Beach! I've been there, beautiful job of capturing it in gouache!

Next posting: Colored pencil. Or (if it's Drew posting) it could be a pastel of any kind.
