New Policy Seems To Be In Effect At Fb

If you reply to a friend on FB with a link to your AW, it seems to get pulled.

From another site I linked as a business offer, it was marked spam and pulled.

See for yourselves.

What do you mean as a business offer? Not supposed to do business on a personal profile on fb

Jessica,

We were always able to show our art with a link as a reply I thought?

Why would I want to see for myself?

I did notice something odd on FB today. I seldom put my art up and mostly use it to talk to my kids or message with friends. Then I just scroll a little. But today I noticed an absence of FAA posts in general.

The feed is usually clogged with them. Most of the time I see many FAA posts by people, even people I don't know and are not friends with. Today I saw no FAA posts by friends or other. Made me think that with so many people posting, as they say, something like 50 times a day, FB is now looking at FAA as spam. IDK but that thought went through my head.

Did you say it's for sale?

I had an image removed from a closed group about 10 minutes ago. We commonly share posts to aid in our genealogy searches....

your not supposed to add your link to a reply, because it is marked as spam, anyone on there can mark it as spam. i think that's true even in the past. right now my stream only has like 10 people in it, the stuff is days old. its boring there now. and very slow. i can barely type it slows the system down. when i post i try hard to not say - this is for sale or what have you. i list it as a link and a description and it seems to stay up. its no different then a news article. i also only use my website, if they ban faa, they may not see my little site as a spam site.

Marlene,

I can understand my images being seen as spam, NOT marked for sale though.

But this channel of communication on FB just saw the curtain half lowered.

Mike,

It was automatically marked as spam. To quickly for anyone to have ever seen the link in the first place.....and each and every time.

I think it's all going to go crazy/sideways for a while. FB's first implementation of these big changes may not be their last. There's going to be a lot of kickback whatever they do.

FB learned something from IG, the SM can offer just one place for a link and huge numbers of people will play anyway.

I belong to a social media email list. Here is a recent email I received. I'm not necessarily promoting this list just sharing what was written. kind long read

It's Mike Stelzner, founder of Social Media Examiner emailing with an important analysis.

In this email I will outline (comprehensively) the new Facebook News Feed changes, what they mean for your future marketing, and what you can do now about these changes.

Before I share my analysis, let me share that I have been tracking the News Feed updates for almost two years. I have extensive feedback from our community. I also have our own research from thousands of marketers.

This change WILL impact you. Here's what you need to know:

On January 11th, Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook's CEO) said that Facebook's mission is to bring people closer together.

He went on to say, "but recently we've gotten feedback from our community that public content--posts from businesses, brands, and media--is crowding out the personal moments."

Mark then dropped the bombshell, "Based on this, we're making a major change to how we build Facebook."

Then Facebook's Head of News Feed (Adam Mosseri) outlined the coming changes. Adam also made a public interview and posted in media groups (which I belong to).

Some refer to this change as Facebook Apocalypse and others as Facebook Zero.

What I will bring you below are the facts, as presented by Adam.

Fact 1: Adam said, "space in News Feed is limited."

Fact 2: "We’ll show less public content, including videos and other posts from publishers or businesses," he said.

Fact 3: "Pages may see their reach, video watch time, and referral traffic decrease," said Adam.

My opinion: It's been my experience that historically they have said, "may or may not." I interpret this may as a "will."

Fact 4: "Over the next few months, we’ll be making updates to ranking," said Adam.

Mark clarified, "We started making changes in this direction last year, but it will take months for this new focus to make its way through all our products. The first changes you'll see will be in News Feed."

My opinion: I've heard reports from people in our community that they are already starting to see a different type of experience. I anticipate a wide scale change as early as February.

So here is what we know so far:

#1: Video will get less watch time. Inference: you'll see less video in the News Feed.

#2: Links to external pages will get less visibility. Thus, they won't be showing as many links to blog posts, news, and so on.

Now at this point, you might be wondering, "are you kidding me?" You might be thinking, "how could it get any worse?"

I have more data to share. Here we go.

#3: ALL posts from people and pages will be impacted. In Facebook's News, Media, & Publishing group (which I belong to), Adam said the following, "The update applies to all post types, from pages and people."

So if you've been thinking, "I use my personal profile. This doesn't apply to me," think again.

If you're thinking of starting a group and hoping that will allow your posts to be seen, that's not the solution. Those are still posts from people and the content itself is still subject to the News Feed algorithm.

So what are the important ranking factors?

Facebook will "prioritize posts that spark conversations and meaningful interactions between people," said Adam.

In a recent Wired Magazine exclusive interview, Adam said, "we're going to be (weighing) long comments more than short comments," and that "comments are more valuable than likes."

So, actual "meaty" dialog between people (not pages and people, see the language distinction) is critical for News Feed exposure.

Now to video. Adam said, "video is, primarily, a passive experience. You tend to just sit back and watch it. And while you're watching it, you're not usually liking, or commenting, or speaking with friends."

I believe this means a lot fewer shorter videos, a lot fewer Tasty-style how-to videos, and a lot fewer video animations.

At this point it should be very clear that your strategy has got to change.

I'm working my keynote slides for Social Media Marketing World 2018 and have given a LOT of thought to what the next steps are for us marketers.

I'm going to lay out some of my first ideas below:

Step 1: Scale back your frequency of posts. Less is more here.

Step 2: Figure out how to create content that will get people talking to EACH OTHER, not just you.

Step 3: Up your live video game plan.

Adam said, "live videos often lead to discussion among viewers on Facebook--in fact, live videos on average get six times as many interactions as regular videos."

Step 4: Avoid engagement bait. These are posts that encourage people to comment. Adam said Facebook will "demote these posts in News Feed."

Step 5: Master Facebook ads: This will be one of the only reliable ways you'll be able to drive traffic off of Facebook.

Step 6: Learn Messenger Chatbots: Moving conversations into Messenger and using bots will be a huge trend that will allow you to nurture leads and sell.

A lot of the above steps will likely require a complete shift in your current Facebook strategy. If it helps, share this email with your boss, clients, or friends.

And let me suggest a way to rapidly improve your Facebook strategy, live video experience, Facebook ads, and Messenger chatbot success.

Attend Social Media Marketing World 2018 starting on February 28th.

For Facebook marketing strategy, attend sessions from Michael Stelzner (that's me), Mari Smith, and Brian Fanzo.

For live video, we have 8 sessions, led by Vincenzo Landino, Luria Petrucci, Amy Porterfield, Ian Anderson Gray, Lou Mongello, Alex Khan, Kim Garst, and Sean Cannell.

For Facebook ads, we have 8 presentations, taught by Jon Loomer, Andrea Vahl, Nicholas Kusmich, Amanda Bond, Dennis Yu, Logan Young, Rick Mulready, Zach Spuckler, and Azriel Ratz.

For Messenger chatbots, you'll be taught by Molly Pittman, Andrew Warner, and Ben Beck.

Isn't now the right time to up your skills?

usually when the system deems something as spam, you'll see it in the help section if you click the ? and then at the bottom you'll see the support messages. there it will tell you that something was removed, something was spam, or you were marked as a spammer, or your banned in general. if it was simply erased, it might have been the op of that thread that removed it. i remove comments all the time. if it was market as spam your usually told.

It's not new. I have had comments in past months automatically marked as spam that contained links to news articles that I made on posts with friends. Not selling anything, not sharing anything other than something I had read, just casual conversation. Like you experienced, it happened way too fast to have even been seen. Click post, get notification that it's marked as spam.

If it's a friend, they'll still see it and can unmark it as spam. I assume pages/group admins can also see it and unmark it but who knows if they'll even spot it. In a halfway active group or page, yeh, I doubt it.

There are tons of posts from other users having the same problem in the Facebook help community going back into the summer at least.

It's apparently more likely to happen if there's a link and/or a long comment. It's not a human marking it as spam but one of Facebook's beloved computer algorithms trying to automagically find the spam.

Yet I see post after post about work at home scams and the like in comments. Obviously the scammers are more clever about how to post comments than real users. LOL

So, we can still pay to boost, we'll just get even less for our money than before.

And it's now about comments, not likes - so we need to post something that encourages comments. But if FB detects we're deliberately doing that, they'll downrank that post. Oh, and get those people to comment to each other, not to you. Huh?

But videos - yes, post more videos. For some reason FB really likes videos.

None of this is making any sense at this point. I get the feeling there's a big battle going on inside FB over future direction. In the end the biggest and most aggressive shareholders always win, and always want short term profits.

Jim,

No if you pay you get more now. The fluff is being knocked out of FB, so now the ads will come through louder depending on how they are composed.

I am sorry but I am just not seeing this or anything like this.

I have been on FB all day for the most part for the last two or three days adding a lot of posts and a lot of links.

I just went and checked several of them, the ones I can remember and the ones I could find in my notifications and none of them have been removed.

Maybe it is because I have a business page.

The question I have and have raised before. If you want to do business on FB, why would try to do it on a personal page? That just does not make sense to me.

I have a business and personal page. Everything I post on either page shows up on both pages. But I rarely post to my personal page.

On posts that I am trying to do business, I try to post them to my business page and then share them to whatever pages or groups I want them on.

I am not having any problems with this at all. Not that I have seen anyway.

Maybe I should add "yet" to that!!

"In the end the biggest and most aggressive shareholders always win, and always want short-term profits'

Jim, have you ever read the earnings reports or sat in on the conference calls, that are public, where these kinds of things are discussed and spelled out for the public to see and regulated by the SEC?

You may want to visit https://finance.yahoo.com/calendar/earnings/ and see when FB reports next and take a look at their plans for earnings growth in short, medium, and long-term.

"Step 1: Scale back your frequency of posts. Less is more here." No problemo :)

"Step 5: Master Facebook ads: This will be one of the only reliable ways you'll be able to drive traffic off of Facebook." Gee... never would have guessed!

Facebook seems to me to be at a point where it has nowhere to go but down.

Jim Hughes

Well, the biggest shareholders may want what's best for the world. Sometimes that actually happens.

A system as complex as FB can't be "designed." It has to evolve.

Some of us have business and personal pages. I have noticed once or twice recently my comment on my FB friend's post being deleted to my view but my friend could see it as I realized after scrambling to rewrite my reply.

Jim Hughes, FB says they like LIVE videos in real time because they cause conversation. It's the regular videos FB wants to curtail as they are passive without causing much conversation.

FB is making it less motivating for people you don't know to want to become FB friends to market their products on your feed because now these faceless people, who never join in the conversation will not be seen! In the last few days I have felt like speaking out to those faceless FB friends with "Please don't expect me to like your page when you never contribute to the conversation." It's rude to ignore others or take advantage of them by never responding because you only want likes for yourself. It is also common sense one also responds on business pages to others to encourage conversation and friendliness. It's not all about you. So much for the boorish people. I don't blame those for complaining to FB. The up side to this is we will see less people wanting to be FB friends for the wrong reasons on personal pages.

Like Floyd says get a business page and properly take care of your business and stop being a bore! LOL The exception to this is when those that are friendly join in the conversation, responding which builds relationship. Isn't this what the experts tell you about social media?! I become interested in people who I get to know and enjoy seeing their work and progress. But if it gets too one sided that's when people feel they're being taken advantage of.

Jim Hughes

Facebook - or at least some people in it - have now decided everyone should start commenting more, interacting with each other, because that's healthier. That may be a nice idea, but they really have no way to coerce people to do that. All they can do is create a different game.

I'm already sick of videos and so are a lot of people. So good luck with that.

I credit FB with finally trying to envision a more positive future, start to take control of their system and push it in a more positive direction. But they're trying to turn a really big ship at this point.

Floyd Snyder

Cold hard facts are that FB is a billion dollar business and they are not going let it "evolve" into anything other than more of a money-making machine that it has become.

FB is reporting earning on 31JAN18. They are expected to earn $1.94 a share on 2,330.17 Million shares. (I guess they are doing something right)

If they miss their estimates, I would suggest that you buy the dip and sell the March Calls (option) to cover any additional downside. I would bet that you will catch both the option call premium and the recovery bounce.

You buy enough shares and it works the way I think it will, you will not care if FB ever sells anything for you! lol

DISCLOSURE: I may have FB stock in my IRA still.

I do it all the time Jessica, and no one has ever complained in fact most come back with an almost instant like or another comment.

Again, it is about timing and understanding what and when making a post of this kind is appropriate.

You can't just go out and stick your sales posts on people's post just out of the blue that has nothing to with the topic or the discussion.

But even if you did, all that person has to do or all you have to do is block that person.

Some people, in general, IMHO, are way overstating or overreacting and trying to put a worst case scenario on every little thing they see that they do not like about FB.

And as far as those "I just sold" post, I never have liked them and I never use them. The yell desperation to me like it happens on so few occasions that it is some kind of big deal. Even if it a big deal, it is not the image I want to project. It suggests to me something less than success. I would rather project the image that I am selling so much stuff that I don't have time to make a post of every sale I make.

David Bridburg

Jessica many of the people I friend on FB have long running threads where people put in Gif and other materials. Or the discussion lends itself to an image and I would add it as linked back to my AW. The whole thing is harmless fluff. Most of it goes unread by me at least unless it becomes very funny. If it does often I am cause all the trouble with a friend.

I had put up an ad for elsewhere on the 25th and two people liked it immediately. It was totally fitting to what they fully love in real life. Tried it on the 26 and immediately it was called spam by ONLY FB.
