Who Are These People Writing Me "through Faa"?

Hi, Abbie

I've received 2 emails in my private email on Yahoo that is supposedly from somebody in FAA. They're DoNotReply addresses. Can these people get hold of the FAA list of members and their private emails to send out this spam? I've never heard of either sender nor have I asked for information.

They only know you if you respond....which of course you will not

They are using the CONTACT ARTIST link on your page https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-kay-brewer.html (Pixels https://pixels.com/profiles/1-kay-brewer.html)

i've been getting a bunch of spam in the private email this last week or two. i think both nigerian based or something to improve my page. they had to go through some trouble to do it, its certainly not very efficient

For the record, I get a LOT of sales via that contact artist thing so it is not all spam.

I've gotten spam too. Very annoying, but I never respond, of course.

Abbie, thanks for the quick reply. No, I did not reply to them nor did I click the links. I agree with Mike, if the spammers are going to each individual account and clicking on their email address, it IS very inefficient. If they've figured out a way to collect all addresses at one time, then there's cause for concern. And at some point, somebody's going to click and link. What happens then?

Mike, thanks for sharing your experience with these spam folks.

JC Findley, in no way am I encouraging the contact link be disbanded. Did you infer that from my discussion to Abbie? I just don't want this to continue. I get enough spam.

"For the record, I get a LOT of sales via that contact artist thing so it is not all spam."

No it is not all spam. Ditto what JC said.

Let's not do something that prvents that from happening. We can live with the spam.

Have had a couple like that too through here lately.

Either the bots have figured out how to solve the captcha or there's an actual live human sending that spam.

The bots are getting smarter for sure. I started getting spam recently on my own site (a thousand and one SEO specialists with vague promises to make my site appear at the top of Google) and it took several different tries to finally stem the tide. Knock wood....

Mark

PS At any rate, there's only so much you can do and still have a functional way for legitimate customers to reach you. FAA already has a captcha field they have to fill out. As a rule those annoy me but the one here is not that hard to read. I did not think the original poster was suggesting removing the contact link so much as wondering if there was a way to stop/limit the spam in general.

Neither one of those links are scammers. They are just trying to sell your products.

I agree it is not the right way to go about it, it is spam, but no one is trying to scam you. Not in those two links.

They are spam

I'll go with Abbie on whether or not it's spam. She says it is? Then it is.

Nowhere in anything I or anybody else said implies that we're trying to dissolve the contact link or that it's not of value to anyone. Of course it is. That's why it's there. Please don't make this into more than it is: my concern that they're sending me this SPAM to begin with.

Since Abbie has answered my question, I'd like to close this link because it's getting way beyond my question. My question to Abbie. I don't know the protocol for closing discussion items, even when I begin them. Abbie, ok to close this?

I never said it was not spam... I clearly said it was... but they are legitimate businesses just using an illegitimate method of advertising.

They are harmless in regard to trying to rip you off.

Not all spammers are crooks. They are just pests.

I was just trying to give you some peace of mind that they are not evil scammers trying to cheat you or corrupt your computer with some sort of doomsday virus if you clicked on the link.

Not suggesting you should have clicked on the link either.

You opened it, you can close it anytime you want.
