Not YANNY, certainly not LAUREL.
Since everybody else is talking about this, how about us us?

I tried it earlier today, I only hear Laurel, I have no idea where others are getting Yanny from. Just goes to show you that our perceptions are easily deceived, we should not be so sure of ourselves.

Ok that's weird, I hear Yanny. If I slide the thing to the left I do hear Laurel.
EDIT - it's like that spinning woman thing where some people see her spinning to the left and some see her spinning to the right. I remember I can force her to change directions if I concentrate.
I didn't hear anything because it wouldn't play, But thank you Roger I couldn't figure out what that was about.
Here you go. I see her spinning right but if I squint and concentrate, I can see her spinning left:

Well, I'm going to have to stop this because it's driving me nuts. If you click in the middle, it is clearly saying Laurel. If you start sliding it to the right there is never a point at which it morphs into Yanny! But if you click on the right side, it's Yanny. Then, if you slowly click backwards toward the middle, it doesn't morph back into Laurel, it stays Yanny.
Is someone messing with us?
Wow, Mary. I couldn't get her to stop spinning left. But when I blinked, she suddenly started spinning right.
I didn't try that, Patricia....off to try it again.
Ok, actually don't hear Yanny, I hear Yarry, but to the left I definitely hear Laural. Even if I try it Pat's way.
Roger,
I hear Laurel. I have to go right about half way to hear something beginning to sound like Yanny.
Mary,
She seems to only go clock wise.
Dave
Dave, I can force her to go counterclockwise but by default when I start watching at first she's moving clockwise. The article said about 2/3rd of us see her going clockwise and 1/3 counter clockwise, and some people can't force the other perception. I can get her to go counterclockwise.
But back to Roger's thing - I never did hear "Yanny", I hear "Yarry" when it's over to the right and even in the middle.
Mary, I tried to hear Yarry, but I could not! Only Yanny, but mostly Laurel. I wonder what that tells us about ourselves. Weird.
Mary,
I hear Yarry as well....not really Yanny.
Both of you,
I can not get her to go counter clock wise. Wont happen for me. I get a headache.

LOL, it's like those Magic Eye things, Dave. I can usually get them to separate out but there are some I just can't get to work.
Mary,
I can not do those magic eye things at all. Never. Impossible. I sees what I sees.
I do eye yoga, does that count?
Dave
Well, eye yoga is good, Dave. I do that too when I do my nightly yoga routine.
With those Magic Eye things, you just have to have the thing close to your face and kind of unfocus your eyes, then when it starts to separate, you move it back slowly. But like I said, there are some I can't get to work, no matter how long I stare at them.
Mary,
I gave up on them.
If I sit in my dentist's waiting room, he has one hanging. I look away. I can not challenge myself that way.
I just dont get it.
Hey my parent's dog sees dogs reflected in their fireplace glass doors to bark at. I am not that bad.

He is such a funny dog.
It is only 11 where you are. I was promising myself I'd be in bed by mid night.
Have a nice evening,

I hear Yarry too Roger. or more like Yawwy.
I hear Laurel if someone is holding their phone turned away from me.
I know there is science behind this, but it really rather bugs me out.
You can now clearly see why people have such opposing opinions on matters .
If you insist Roger...
I listened multiple times (before this discussion thread) and for the life of me, I could not hear the slightest indication of "Yanny". All I could make out was "Laurel". In the link you provided I moved the slide bar to each extreme and could hear the difference but still never heard "Yanny" being pronounced.
I know that women generally speak with a higher pitched tone. Maybe they hear higher pitched tones as well?
I used to work for the phone company. At one time we had some signaling equipment that operated on 2600 cycles. You could whistle at 2600 cycles and drop a call off. Eventually, they determined that many of the trouble reports coming in were caused by women's higher voices hitting that 2600 cycle range and it was dropping the call off.

when i opened the page and first clicked play, I heard Yanny.
as I moved the slide to the left I heard Laurel...
I worked the slide back and forth to the edges, Laurel to Yanni back to Laurel etc...
slowly shorting the distance each time toward the center after doing this several times,
I now hear them both at the same time as the slide sits on it's center position.
I hear Yanni. Been listening for years.

I also hear Laurel all the way over to the 2nd to last tick on the right, at which point I begin to hear Yealy, with a short e.
After listening over and over again
I still hers YARRY
One click to the left it changes to LARRY
The next click it becomes LORRY
And then it turns to LAUREL.
When I click to the right it changes to YERRY
and finally it becomes JERRY

I hear Yanny when the volume is turned way down, but Laurel when it’s turned up. Discovered that last night when I forgot to turn up the volume.
After listening more intently, and from different locations in the room, I think what I'm actually hearing on the right side is Lyaaunrneyl.
I don't hear Laurel at all on any recording that doesn't morph the sound. It's straight up Yammy all day.
Brings into question what "ear" witnesses may hear during a crime. Witness #1: He said "I will kill you". Witness #2: He said "I will kiss you". Witness #3: I'm deaf, so I didn't hear what he said.... but I noticed he had an axe in his right hand.

The trick on the dancer is to look at her shadow of her foot it will allow your perception to change and follow her counterclockwise.
maybe it has something to do with older and younger ears....I might have heard both names on the sliding scale if I hadn't gone to so many ear drum piercing rock concerts.....?
Thank god you said that Joy. My husby, who hears Laurel, thought I was especially nuts.
I have ZERO idea how anyone can turn that into Laurel. Apparently if you can't hear all your high frequencies that's the one you hear. All old rock and roll musicians are gonna hear Laurel, LOL!

Here's another one... Brainstorm or Green Needle?

Using the slider on that link was the first time I heard anything but laurel. And even then it was second to last stop on the right before I got there. Even then it sounds incredibly distorted. The funny thing is it was meant to be laurel from the get-go.
I’ve read the explanations for how people hear one vs the other and I might as well be reading stereo instructions....
I have a 15% hearing loss in one ear, most likely from my occupation as rock chick for lo these several decades. I do have tinnitus now too, just not all the time (thank God). But I guess I still hear high frequencies, which is good to know. YAMMY!
The depiction of the audio on the graphs on Roger's link... they don't look alike at all. Also take into consideration that that is an automated voice, I don't care what anyone says!

My mother and I used to have a constant argument about whether something was green or blue if it was something kind of in between, but definitely one or the other. I can't remember which way it would go. I think she would insist it was green and I would insist it was blue. Anyway this stuff is freaky but interesting.

Yesterday I heard when i clicked play, I heard Yanny.
Today I clicked play and heard Laurel.
On both days I worked the slide back and forth to the edges, Laurel to Yanni back to Laurel etc...
slowly shorting the distance each time toward the center after doing this several times, I hear them
both at the same time as the slide sits on it's center position.

I have that with greys and blacks Mary.
I see green, blue or brown .The world sees black.
p.s. one of you was a tad bit color blind if the were missing the blue tones.
when I heard it on my car radio speakers it was clearly Yanny. On my laptop it is clearly Laurel. So the pitch of the speakers has everything to do with it.
