Question On Custom Domains, Any Help?

I am in the middle of migrating my domain (jdebordphoto.com) to my Pixels website.

Under "Behind the scenes" it says this ---

CNAME Record

You have to point your CNAME Record to the following URL: custom.artistwebsites.com. Don't include http:// or any other prefixes.

For the host name, type "www" without the quotes.

-----------------------------

I use 1& 1 as my domain host.
I don't know which one I should edit (see screen shot below) and really don't want to risk messing this up.
Any ideas which it is that I want to point my CNAME to?
If I am understanding, I literally just enter "custom.artistwebsites.com" verbatim, word for word?
Thanks!

I believe the autodiscover record might be a 1and1 email record. So it looks like you should replace the _domainconnect record with custom.artistwebsites.com word for word. You can always just copy and paste the old record(s) (or take a screenshot of the records) and save them if you think you might screw up. You can always put them back.

I use 1and1 also John. In the end, and others will chime in to say the same, best to just forward the domain as you lose the security padlock in the address bar otherwise.

Frank and John,

That's not true. Check my site...completely secure.

You can definitely get padlocks on your site using Cloudflare SSL. Below is a short tutorial video I made. If the video seems blurry click one of the HD settings.

You will need to set your records at 1&1 to point to Cloudflare and then set the Cloudflare records to your artist website...takes about 5 minutes. It's free to use Cloudflare SSL. Note: The domain I used in the video is just one of mine that I am using for illustrative purposes.

Cheers

Ha, Don I was just going to refer him to that:

Franl, some of us are using Cloudflare to secure the custom domain now.

Look for the video that Don made if you don't want to wade through the whole. thread.

Right. I was going to post the link, but I think all of the information we put on there as we worked through the proper settings, and the other sorta unrelated info posted, might confuse a few folks. ;) In any case, it was a job well done. Anyone that needs help, feel free to post there if they like.

Cheers

I will check that out, Thanks. But may just wait until Sean makes it happen here … I've had my issues with plug-ins.

It;s not a plug-in, Frank. Cloudflare is a CDN with SSL. We worked out the required settings so that setup is free and easy.

If Sean ever does anything, it'll probbaly be with Cloudflare anyway.

As of Dec, 2017 Cloudflare was protecting 7,000,000 internet properties and 2000 enterprise customers. I am sure that number is quite a bit larger now as they are growing very rapidly.

They are a large player in many areas of the internet game. William mentioned CDN, which will actually speed your site up a bit. We are also using it to work around a specific error in Sean's code. :)

Thanks all for the help. Been sick so I am just getting around to reading the replies.
I have forwarded my domain but I am getting the "insecure" alert. Hm, this isn't good.
I am going to watch the tutorial Don posted & holler back later if I have any questions.
Thanks all!

You won't get an error if just forwarding. Only if pointing

Use cloudflare
