Elephants..........image Thread ..save The Elephants

ELEPHANTS......Image thread. Any Medium. Save the Elephants.

Why? Because::::::
www.worldwildlife.org
African elephants are listed as vulnerable and Asian elephants as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

BURN YOUR IVORY !

Thanks,Abbie.

PLEASE.......don't enlarge images....it makes the thread too long, and not fair to all/everyone.

And...............Post once, then wait for another to post, before you post again....thanks.
(I did that once because I was so tired that I then went to bed!,lol, but not again/promise.))

Elephants are wonderful animals, love them - wish I had an image of one. I will enjoy seeing what everyone has. :)

I have several elephant images - so many people love these gentle, social giants. Here's my favorite, though.

Elephant In The Room is a fun and satirical piece that creatively and literally captures the English metaphorical idiom for an obvious truth that is either being ignored or going unaddressed. This photo artwork is sure to put a smile on your face each and every day!

I remastered it, and the idea for this thread came to mind......

Great idea. I will put on my to do list to sketch one in the future, I may not see one here in Texas unless I go to a zoo and I do not like to see them penned up.

How else did you think James and PT go on vacation? It's not like you can just drop off a tent full of circus animals at a doggy day care. And your neighbors can only take maybe one giraffe, at best another pig, but the whole circus act is just too much to impose on your neighbors. Just think of all the flak you will get for the rest of your live if you left your elephant with your neighbor and they soon realize picking up after an elephant is nothing like just picking up after your dog at all! So wake the neighbors and pack up the Winnebego because this Barnum and Bailey circus act is going on a Summer roadtrip vacation across the good ol' US of A! I'm just hoping Denny's have learned to flush their pipes from the last time we'all made a pit stop at their fine establishment, they should NEVER have served us the Grand Slam Breakfast! -W

Elephants of Plaza Vina Del Mar of Sausalito California

At the conclusion of the 1915 San Francisco Panama-Pacific International Exposition, the Expo displays were destroyed to make room for more post-earthquake rebuilding efforts in San Francisco. William B. Faville could not bare the thought of his beautiful flagpole elephants being destroyed, so he used his position to ferry his favorite two elephants and one beautiful paper mache fountain across the San Francisco Bay to his Sausalito home. The triangle-shaped park: Vina del Mar, in Sausalito, holds the 1915 Faville treasures. When the San Francisco 1915 Panama-Pacific Fair was created, many types of temporary buildings and accents were created out of an industrial-strength paper mache product that was designed to last about one year. Global artists were represented at this world-class event; about 1500 full-size sculptures adorned the 635-acre complex. Among the large sculptures on display were examples of classical-era art formats in fountains, statues and architectural accents. It was a large honor to be asked to create sculptures for the Expo. When the two elephants arrived in Sausalito by ferryboat, they were placed in the park that sits nearby to the ferry-lines station. The town children named their paper mache big elephants: ‘Jumbo’ and ‘Pee-Wee’ while the adults admired the stunning fountain that arrived with the Faville elephants. Against all odds, the industrial-strength paper mache materials remained intact for almost 20-years; however, during the mid-1930s, the Jumbo and Pee-Wee statues, along with the elegant paper mache fountain, started to decompose. -sausalito.com

pair of elephants touching trunks photo by nikolyn mcdonald

Elephants are social animals, so much so that if they are isolated from others of their kind, they languish. These two spent long periods of time apart, often with their backs turned to one another, wandering around an area and feeding . . . but every so often they would approach one another and touch trunks, as if to reassure themselves that the other was still there.

University of California at Berkeley has produced some of the most talented graduates in the world and has won countless prestigious academic awards including the most nobel prizes in the universe, and are among the top institutions worldwide. That's what UCB is known for internationally. But for the Bay Area locals and for those alumni who's had the privilege and honor of graduating from this prestigous institution, we all know Cal is affectionately known only as THE ZOO! For the uninitiated, Berkeley is the epicenter of the sixties love peace and rock and roll movements, we protest just because it's Friday or any other day for that matter, and we invented equal rights, civil rights, animal rights, the right to be right, free speech, tree sitting, the green movement, alternative energy, and the black panther. And all this happens daily on our little corner of the world known simply and humbly as Sproul Plaza, the most popular part of the Zoo where you can pick up The Daily Californian, see street performer regulars, watch people from all walks of life, and carry on endless debates with perfect strangers. And if you're lucky, you might even participate in a protest or two. But remember, when you're at The Zoo, Don't Feed The Animals! -W

I don't have any elephant images ... but I would like to point you to this work ("Little Trumpet" by Donna L Byers - https://fineartamerica.com/contests/billboard-contest.html?tab=vote&artworkid=27473900). That painting took a 2nd place in Billboard Phase 1 contest.

Here are Donna's comment on her painting - "Do you ever look at a piece of art and wonder what inspired the artist to create it? What is the story behind the image? What was the artist thinking about? Did you know that elephants could quite possibly be extinct just 11 years from now? Yes, EXTINCT. More than 30,000 elephants are slaughtered every year to support the illegal ivory trade. In Mozambique they kill an average of 4 elephants per day. PER DAY. If we don't raise awareness and do something to save the elephants, it is entirely possible that the only elephants your grandchild will ever see is in an old photograph. Are we okay with that? I'm not... "LITTLE TRUMPET" 48"h X 36"w oils on canvas, available."

'Forgiveness' is a poem I wrote after reading about the horrific practice of Phajaan, where baby elephants are tortured to break their will so they are compliant for use in the tourist trade. Having written the poem I wanted to illustrate it and that led to this piece, also called 'Forgiveness'. You can read the poem if you click the link.

Wrinkles by Debbie Oppermann
The majestic African Elephant remains threatened by illegal hunting for ivory, habitat loss and human-elephant conflict, with the illegal demand for ivory being the biggest driver of elephant poaching. The African Elephant is the largest terrestrial animal and lives in forests, marshes, savannas and desert. The rough hide, large ears, long trunk and tusks make this one beautiful unique and fascinating animal.

This is from my 12 piece endangered animals poster series (I have one about already extinct animals and a recent one about Madagascar wildlife too). What humankind has been doing to our planet and its wildlife is a constant source of anger, disappointment and bad conscience for me, that's why I created these series (my profit aids the Sea Shepherds).

The Sumatran elephant is one of the three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant, and native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It's threatened by habitat loss and - as all elephants - by poaching. The IUCN RedList updated its status to critically endangered in 2011, as Sumatran elephants have lost half their population and around 70% of their habitat through deforestation in the past 25 years.
