First 100 Images

I just reached my first 100 images after a long absence, when I pulled my port out. I am not sure 100 is an impressive number these days for a photographer, since some artists here have a few thousands. It is hard to come up with a few thousand images that are not something anyone else with a camera or phone can do. And I still might have some of those as well.

This is has been lot of work, some images look a little darker than I had intended, I go back and forth, re-upload some, adjust others etc. Fitting the products is not easy, some have unusual dimensions, certain compositions do not work well with them and I suspect that a lot of my images are a little too gloomy to be purchased as products.

If anyone has any suggestions etc, I would appreciate it. It is not the first time that I ask and I believe that I have implemented everything that made sense to me. I still have to work on my avatar also, it is not too easy to take a picture of myself.

It has been fun and instructive following this forum even though I do not often post. I have a lot of work to do on my pictures and somewhat unrelated professional life.

Some nice shots. Flowers in monochrome is not the best idea.

Sell Art Online

This I like most, but it has no keywords. Nobody can find it.
May be You cut a bit off from the right side. Also in square it would look nice.

100 is not many and yes it is much work but when You want to sell You have to work hard,

Congrats on reaching 100 images. It's not easy. I like your collection, lots of good work.

Photography Prints

Love this one, great abstract. But there are no keywords at all, it will be really difficult for anybody to find it.

i assume your asking for a critique of some kind

i always use a standard crop for photos so i know i won't have issues.

Art Prints
this has a weird haze on it that makes it almost look blurry. it could use a bit of punching up. your pinterest button should be on.

Photography Prints
the lighting is ok on this, but i don't really get the still life. the description seems forced to me. like you had a bunch of random items and just stuck it together. i'm not sure if others would really get it. like if this is a harvest scene then i can see having different kinds of veggies in there. but the lantern? the description mentions indians, but then there is a book etc.. i don't get it. also its not really a harvest when things are dead.

Photography Prints
your lighting is super random on the still lives. some are way too dark. others are way to bright like this one.

i would remove the suggestion of what people can do with the image. a card doesn't pay much, and not everyone has a cabin.

Art Prints
this one is a good still life but its really dark. this should be made brighter, or you can paint with light. i like the one lone apple and scattered leaves. if you know the apple type mention that in the tags.

Art Prints
no tags means the artist who actually made this - won't find it so easily. but its actually copyright infringement. this image shows up twice in your folder, one in the back one in the front.

Photography Prints
i don't get why the light is only on the edge of the books and not the wine. the wine is the centerpiece because it has a warm color. the sunglasses don't belong to this scene at all. reading glasses are ok if they look vintage. sunglasses are for outside, not reading a book. looking at it again i see they are normal glasses, but they are so chunky looking in this, i would rather see wire frame and delicate and facing the camera more. ideally you don't need the third prop. but you do need better lighting.

Photography Prints
i think your landscapes have the strongest chance of selling. you don't have to tell people you added grain, that's apparent.

Sell Art Online
this would work better if there were two sets of prints and you said that those ghosts were some relative or parents or something sad.

i hate all avatars that have a camera in front of their faces btw. it shows they are not a pro, because they needed a mirror to see themselves in the image. its not really creative because everyone does it. and its hard to remember your face because everyone else has the same look. the cyclops look.

your bio suggests you have larger images of each thing... you can't enlarge what you have, they won't print it. i find people don't know what they want in their crop... outline what you do and what you make. that's the main part. i wouldn't call it a fav theme, tell people what you specialize in.

I think your work is fabulous! Lovely still life work. Yeah.. just keep adding as many tags as you possibly can think of that describe your work. I love your style!

Rudi Prott thanks for calling my attention for this image without keywords. I don't know how that happened since I make sure all of them have it.

Mike thanks for your input. I like your critique honest and to the point. You should start charging for it. Will read carefully and work on what i can.

It is strange that some images ended up without keywords and I do not know why. Will add again and keep an eye on it see if they vanish again. Weird.

I am not sure what you meant by "this would work better if there were two sets of prints". Oh ghosts would better than personality disorders? Worth the try.

hey if you want to pay me, i'll take the money. in fact we are having a 25% off cyber monday sale...

the set of ghosts walking by, i only see 1 set of foot prints leading off... ideally, and this would be harder, if you had one solid person with a set of prints. and one faint almost washed away set of prints for the ghost. its the OCD in me that needs 2 sets.

did you ever spam here? because sometimes your words are all removed if you did.

Mike thanks for the explanation, it does make sense.

I do not think that I have spammed the forum. I sometimes drop an image at the monthly photograph treads.

I add my keywords as metadata in Adobe, and when I upload the images, I check that both description and keywords are there. When metadata is lost in the process, it's usually both description and keywords that get lost. It is a little odd to have just the description there.

It is possible that I have failed to save something. Not sure.

Thanks again for your input. Having a hard time taking a picture of myself for an avatar. I never learned to do that properly (self portrait with a camera). Others always miss.

not the forum - if you had spam words on the picture itself, they often just gut all your words. they will also blank out if you don't add commas.

for the avatar, usually you ask someone to take your picture for you. or you can use a phone against a nice background.

if you commit a crime, they take a nice shot of you at the police station. often you can get a profile at the same time. and then the image is public domain, free to use.

Mike I don't, at least intentionally, spam.

Good plan, commit a crime then have a nice avatar.

Cannot wait.

You have a thing for avatars, every time I look at you you look different ;-)

the spam idea is just a theory.

i change my avatar each month. i think i have well over a 100 of them now.

I went try to fix the problem with this picture

Photography Prints

but the tags are there. They do not show either on my FAA page or on my Pixels account but they are there when I click "edit image. Same with:

Sell Art Online

The problem is not on my end. The good news is, when I type in the unique keywords of these images, I find them. The tags are there and they are being found by the search engine.

Mike Savad

Did you add commas?

Alessandra RC

a short section copied and pasted from second picture

mural etnias; todos somos um; wall paining; graffiti; rio de janeiro; brazil;

etc

Is there something wrong with this? All my keywords are typed in like that.

Mike Savad

need comma's. not semi colons. photoshop puts those in there, often it translates into commas. but if you copy it direct, then it would be wrong. looking at the source:

patricks; patrick; point; state; park; sea; ocean; northern california; california; usa; rocks; outdoor; beach; nature; coast; water; natural; humboldt; county; outdoors; park; rocky; dreamscape; pebbles; pacific ocean; sky; waves; scenic; shore; mar">

it has to be laid out like patricks, point, patricks point, state park, sea, ocean etc with commas.

Alessandra RC

so you think that if I substitute the semi-colons with commas it will solve the problem? Easy though tedious fix. Ugh. Thanks, Mike.

Mike Savad

the site only knows from comma's. spaces, or anything else, it will see it as one long word.

not tedious. if you have openoffice (its free its a WORD replacement). copy your words, hit CTRL F for find, and find and replace will pop up. find ; replace with , and then it will replace it all. i do that all the time for other sites.

Mike just going through your observations I cannot help but laugh at this "i don't get why the light is only on the edge of the books and not the wine. the wine is the centerpiece because it has a warm color. "

Yes I had problems with glowing and reflection and decided to put the light where there was neither.

Point well taken. I would have said the same if it was someone else's picture.

Art Prints

Thanks again.

if you had lighting issues. its best to redirect the light. or make a small light over the wine itself. or do something with a reflector or a diffuser or a snoot. or you can paint with light, physically with a flash light. or like i do, digitally.

or if your getting a weird red shadow underneath, you can add a red piece of cloth like velvet. it would add color, and hide the issues. ideally it would probably look better in a setting that had a desk or something where people would normally read and drink, which is usually not a white on white area, sort of like living in the void. i imagine a warm setting, a desk ledger, some wood grain in the background etc.
