What Crazy Art Thing Do You Really Want To Do?

Me?

I want to hand-carve a full-sized carousel horse.

What crazy thing this octogenarian really wants to do, but knows is impossible, is to gather enough strength and will power, to again be able to set up and do those hectic shows, I used to do, totally on my own.

Those were the days

Ditto. Add to that printing my own large prints on good (rag) paper, cutting my own single, double, triple mats from 4x8 sheets and cutting / vnailing / building my own frames from long sticks. Talk about profit margins! Woo-wee !!

I’d like to create Landscape Art using real plants and trees, something that would look great and great from above.

Our small estate owns a decent sized park, i look out most days and see a very big blank canvas, all residents own a share, but i’d never get enough votes from fellow residents as most of them own dogs, the park is where they walk their dogs.

Why try to live in the past?
Why try or wish we could do what we’ve already accomplished? Times and “we” are constantly changing.

Why not look to do something in art you yet have to be successful at?

Abstract expressionism, “found” art assemblage, different mediums? Your choice.

Advice from Dr. Spencer Johnson author of “The Present”:
Be in the Present
Learn from the Past
Help create the Future
Realize your Purpose

Bill,

RE:.... your last posting

1...Be in the Present

Turning 88, I can't avoid not being in the present....Every morning when I awake the present is all around and within me.

2...Learn from the Past

When I decided to stick crab claws into mussel shells as a living, I was in uncharted waters....There was no previous history that I could bank on...It became, in the development of the "Rat, Bat, Vulture, etc, " enterprise, a continuing bout of trial and error...

3..Help create the Future

Thinking that my future, because of my age, was where I am right now, behind a computer, creating POD....Besides that fact, that it hasn't yet, after 14 years, become anywhere near profitable, I've found that by sitting on my butt for a period of time, causes me to be weaker and unsteady, and OLDER....Forcing me, to be physically active again, getting back to creating tangible art....With my future in need of new outlets that will peddle my stuff.

4..Realize your Purpose

To remain RELEVANT

Not really "crazy" but I'd like to 3-D print one of my artworks, and also do some "pour paintings"

I had the privilege of visiting Spain and seeing Picasso's massive painting, "Guernica." My crazy thing would be to create a piece that had as much impact, both physically and emotionally.

I'd like to be able to spend money on some of those destination photo tours - where they know all the good spots, plan the trip, and drive you around so all you have to do is wake up early, stay up late, and take fantastic photos.

I occasionally imagine painting on something very expensive (like an irreplaceable piece of antique furniture). There are two obstacles: I will not be buying something very expensive. I do not want to waste something.

I'd also settle for painting on a car. I tried that before with mixed results. I'd like to try again, but that's not exactly a simple thing to arrange either.

I guess neither of those are particularly new ideas though.

Douglas Brown, I actually tried that too. My local municipality decided they didn't like it and "removed" it (namely by running over it with a zero turn, just the plants themselves). I still get upset about that, as I had spent several years on it at that point.

Now that I've typed something out, I realize I'm not contributing to an enjoyable discussion, sorry.

Buy another airplane. Now that I’m into drone photography, having some sales and seeing what works - I’d like to be able to shoot from about 1000-1500 feet up instead of being limited to 400.

Rent an airplane, 6000 balloons filled with water based paint in different colors, and create the largest abstract ever, and the most interesting arrest.

I would also love to be part of an artist collective that creates amazing interactive, immersive art installations, like those created by Meow Wolf. You can see videos of their work on Youtube.

Also cool is dropping those same balloons into helicopter blades to make a huge spin art splatter thing.
