Description
Harbour seal (Phoca vitulina) at a seal rehabilitation centre, lying on its back by a pool. These outer areas are used for seals that have recovered sufficiently to start feeding themselves. This seal is at the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre (SRRC), in Pieterburen, the Netherlands. Sick, injured and orphaned seals are treated and cared for here until they can be released back into the wild. The centre was founded in 1971, and treats around 200 seals a year.
