Description
Seal rehabilitation centre. Harbour seal (Phoca vitulina) recuperating under infrared lights to keep it warm and to help it recover its energy and fat reserves. This seal is at the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre (SRRC), in Pieterburen, the Netherlands. Sick, injured and orphaned seals are treated and cared for here until they can be released back into the wild. The centre was founded in 1971, and treats around 200 seals a year.
