Description
This is my last World Series poster of the decade of the 1960's. Hope you have enjoyed the other nine that I redesigned. 1969 World Series pitted the New York Mets against the mighty Baltimore Orioles. This was supposed to be a mismatch because of the dominance of the Orioles throughout the 1969 regular season campaign. The Orioles beat Tom Seaver of the Mets in the first game, 4-1, but then lost the next four in a row. The Mets became the first expansion team to win a division title, a pennant, and the World Series, winning in their eighth year in existence, becoming the fastest expansion team to win a World Series up to that point. The Mets World Series win earned the team the sobriquet “Miracle Mets”, as they had risen from the depths of mediocrity. This was the first World Series of MLB's divisional era.
