Description
Seal rehabilitation centre at night. These outer pools are used by harbour seals (Phoca vitulina) that have recovered sufficiently to feed themselves. This is the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre (SRRC), in Pieterburen, the Netherlands. It consists of quarantine areas, laboratories, and a range of research and medical staff, as well as volunteers. Sick, injured and orphaned seals are treated and cared for here until they can be released back into the wild. The centre was founded in 1971, and treats around 200 seals a year.
