Description
Seal rehabilitation centre workers taking blood samples from a harbour seal (Phoca vitulina), while children watch through the windows. This is a final check before the seal is returned to the sea. This work is being carried out at the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre (SRRC), in Pieterburen, the Netherlands. Sick, injured and orphaned seals are treated and cared for here until they can be released back into the wild. The centre was founded in 1971, and treats around 200 seals a year.
