Description
An Original Oil Painting by Riley Geddings, Florida Landscape Artist
"After The Storm" was completed in late March, 2011. A scene in the one and only Florida Everglades - serene and quiet
now that the storm has passed. The clouds still holding the dark renments of some rain, but are illuminated by the hidden sun.
The "sea of grass" seems to be everywhere, dotted with "islands" of Florida foliage and Cabbage Palm trees. The
sawgrass plain gives way to the lowland pond, which is capturing the beautiful reflections of the sky on its surface.
The clouds show off the glowing Florida colors of pale lemons - emanating out to the ultimate blend of the oranges into the
outer deeper reds.
Claiming center-stage are two of my favorite birds, the inquisitive Black-headed Gulls (Larus Ridibundus) hovering overhead.
In addition, in the foreground, we can see two elegant Great White Herons - one standing majestically on a fallen tree, and the
other gliding silently over the pond in search of a tasty morsel for supper. Silhouetted against that beautiful sky on the left and right,
are tall Cabbage (or Sabal) palms complete with typical under growth.
Several large clumps of freshwater reed-like grasses complete the view in the foreground of this painting, forming a perfect back-drop for
the herons.
