Description
Early on an August morning, the first rays of the new day's sunrise illuminate the 14,000-foot summit of Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. Longs Peak is one of Colorado's 54 so-called "Fourteeners", and is the northernmost "Fourteener" in America's Rocky Mountains. Below the towering peak, the rocky slopes give way to dense forests of pine, which are reflected in the calm waters of Bear Lake. To gain this perspective, a short but treacherous climb up a steep field of boulders was needed, but the view was worth the effort! It is easy to understand why this location is one of the most popular in the Front Range.
