Description
This was a commission piece for a couple of collectors in Bismarck, ND. Here is the symbolism/meaning behind the painting: The dominant color throughout the painting is red. The color red is associated with happiness, optimism, strength, masculinity, dynamism, mobility, passion and is associated with people who live their lives with a tremendous amount of intensity. The contrasting shades of blue were chosen for parts of the painting because the color blue is associated with spirituality, devotion, justice, rationality, tranquility, and contentment. Other colors used int his painting and their color associations are yellow, associated with: cheeriness, enlightenment, sunshine, intelligence, action and youth; orange, associated with: communication, ambition cheerfulness, generosity and receptivity: white, associated with: purity, perfection, infinite wisdom and truth; green, for its positive associations to nature, fertility, life, hope, prosperity, stability, and security; and black, associated with: distinction, nobility, and elegance.
The "tour" of this painting begins in the sky - shortly before sunset - the sky is dominated with red and blue/purple clouds with the sun centrally located. I chose to paint the eye in an Aztec/graphic style to draw attention to it as being the eye of God - painted as if it were made of gold. (I purposely manipulated the perspective where the viewer may become confused as to thinking is the eye in the sky or is it a crown or headdress of the beauty on the beach.) On the right side of the eye there seems to be tears falling that turn into rose petals half way down and then join the floating rose, The meaning here is that the woman on the beach is so beautiful that even God desires her - but can't have her so, he cries rose petals. The rose itself (red rose for everlasting love) hovers in the air and the petals fall up instead of down. The crane on the left side of the painting is a Great Egret in full courtship plumage. During mating season these birds will bow to their prospective mate, If you look closely at the election in the water you'll notice that the election looks up to the beautiful woman. The symbolism here is that beauty can even make reflections turn to look. The flowering tree resembles a Magnolia tree which is one of the oldest trees in the world - dating back to the days of the dinosaurs. Beauty has always been here and will always be. Last but certainly not least is the woman herself. "Beauty" dominates the painting - as it should. The woman wears a semi-transparent garment with just the right amount of figure showing. I have Carrie to thank for one small, but very important detail - her left arm crosses over in front of her and holds some fabric over her shoulder as if covering up from the stares. This contrast between the sensual side and the modest side of the woman is what I feel made the painting. I wonder if anyone who doesn't read this will even notice.
So, there you have it - my interpretation - it surely isn't the only interpretation - that"s the "beauty" of art.
