Stew has been around for a very long time .As long as humans have been cooking they have prepared versions of stew . This slowly cooked type of soup is made from vegetables and or meat. It typically can have carrots,potatoes,celery,onions,tomatoes and peppercorns in it along with a selected meat such as beef, pork-pig,lamb,chicken or even fish.In past years it was a main stay for busy families who had work to do and thus the stew was left to cook the whole day. Because large chunks of vegetable and meats were used ,the end product would remain chunky.
In the 14th century the French word for stew meant a brothel or bathhouse. A slang term for stew is to have high emotions that do not go away.
In 1962 ,Andy Warhol, made polymer paint paintings of 32 Campbells soup cans. He sold them for about $100. a piece.They were considered to be some of the first, American Pop Art and some critics love them and some saw him as an opportunist.His art work spoke of the divide between commercialism and art.In the 1996, New York Citys Museum of Modern Art bought the 32 paintings for 15 million dollars.Trumbells stew is a bit cheaper. ;-))
