Disease-resistance genetics research. Molecular biologist extracting DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) from samples obtained from goats. He is testing to see which goats might have increased resistance to scrapie. Scrapie, caused by a prion, is a fatal, degenerative disease that affects the nervous systems of sheep and goats. This research is being carried out by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the US Department of Agriculture. Photographed in the USA.
