Description
The hushed rustle of leaves under one's feet is the only sound in this secret, quiet, forest glade.
Forest Path, the artwork, invites the viewer onto a path through the trees, with a hint of sunlight shining through the leaves, and the whisper of shadow in the depths of the foliage. Off in the distance, the path winds gently to the right, and as the viewer walks – footsteps scuffling through random leaves – he or she wonders where the path goes from here.
A walk, any walk, takes us on a road to adventure, and for the person of imagination, the journey does not have to be to exotic locales or the tops of high mountain peaks to bring that sense of adventure. Even if one has walked a walk many times before, there is always something to be seen, a new thought prompted by a passing sight, sounds of wildlife and people, or even just the sounds of our own footsteps.
Walks in the woods are adventures because nature itself is an adventure. The path is unexpected and probably not smooth. Birds chirp from somewhere out of sight, and off to the side, a chipmunk rushes from one spot to another, so quickly that we’re not sure whether we’ve actually seen him or not.
Forest Path, like all representational paintings done with sensitivity and a desire to show truth, encourages the viewer to step into the painting, become part of the landscape, and develop a story or series of thoughts around the image. As one reflects upon the painting, the breathing slows down, the concentration increases, and the little worries and issues that crowd upon us each day recede for awhile, giving us a mental break from the “modern,” frenetic world around us.
Step into the world of a magical, fantastical forest and simply listen to the quiet.
