This image is from my book, "All My Relations, A Prayer" and represents the "creeping, crawling ones" that add their voices to the poem, prayer. The page in the book has nothing to do with "Moon in Scorpio". The title came about as a result of selling it as a stand-alone piece.
ABOUT THIS IMAGE: "Moon In Scorpio"
In this image the full moon is shinning through the web of life with Grandmother Spider at its center. The sign of Scorpio is all about transformation. The obvious association with Scorpio is the scorpion with its fiery sting but the snake, the eagle the phoenix and the butterfly are also masters of transformation through their birth, life and death cycles, shedding of old ways, rising up out of the ashes and reinventing ones self. The deep crimson is also representative of the sensuous and passionate nature of Scorpio. I did this painting in 1997 in the context of my book. Now, looking at it with fresh eyes, I see deeper meaning and dimensions.
Ironically I did not include a scorpion in this picture. Who knows why? What I did include however are a few insects and snakes from my other larger painting called "All My Relations". Some of them are on the endangered species list. Starting at the top going clockwise, the insects include the Copper Butterfly, a Dragon Fly, Stag Beetle, Cicada, Praying Mantis and a Grasshopper. Starting with the snake at the upper left they are the Diamondback Rattle Snake, don't remember, Yellow Rat Snake, Scarlet King Snake, don't remember and King Cobra. It just occurred to me that I've never heard of any "Queen Snakes". Hmmm.
Famous Scorpios include:
James Earl Jones
Theodore Roosevelt
Roy Rogers
Jonas Salk
Pablo Picasso
Martin Luther
Marie Curie
Dylan Thomas
Hilary Clinton and?????
Yours truly. :)
