Description
Titled “Hot Rod Insects of the World,” 6 delicate, flame painted and carefully crafted and whimsical illustrations are presented as homage to historic museum nature prints with the following fire-inspired attired insects. In the left hand column starting at the top and moving downward we see a red and tan goliath beetle with traditional flames in shades of yellow-to-orange-to red pinstriped in process blue, second, an orange broad winged sphinx moth with red clustered flames with blue hubs and flame feathered antennae is shown, and, at the bottom is an orange and blue hard shelled ladybug with black polka dots with flowing yellow, orange, and red broad flames cupping its hard shell wing covers or elytra. In the right hand column starting at the top and moving downward is a broad winged silk moth decorated on its wings and broad fuzzy body with yellow, orange, and red tribal flames with “slash” style pinstriping in process blue, below that is an oval fringe winged orange butterfly with clustered yellow and green textured hot rod flames with lime pinstriping and shadows below. At the bottom is a beautiful multi-colored hard bodied flying grasshopper with its wings spread. The upper light blue smaller wings have a navy blue traditional flame design and its larger navy blue hindwings are decorated with yellow, orange, and red tribal flames pinstriped in peacock blue pinstriping. Each of the insects in this print has appeared in the nature mandala art of Tim Phelps.
