One of the scariest animals at a nature center in Texas is the ostrich. I’m not sure if they look cute because after a few encounters with them I can’t get Jurassic Park out of my head! My first encounter with the ostriches at this park was back in 2002. I had a 2001 Honda Accord which sits low to the ground and which had not had its first dent yet. So when the ostrich started stalking us, walking in front of the car, we could not even see its head. All we could see a big fat body filled with feathers. Then it started pecking at my car hoping it could hold us hostage for some snacks! The next couple of times that I visited this drive-though park, I was forewarned and took some photos while it was well away from the car. As it purposely strode toward my car, I rolled up my windows and drove on. Jurassic Park was fun at the movies but it is no fun in real life. The ostrich is a large flightless bird native to Africa but it can run for a long time at speeds upward of 30 mph, with burs...
