The ostrich is native to Africa and the world's largest bird, 7-9 feet tall. Ostriches are flightless birds with long necks and can run up to 43 mph, covering 10-15 feet in a single stride. Their eyes are around 2 inches in diameter. Ostrich brains are around the size of a walnut and smaller than their eyes. Ostriches can defend themselves with a 4 inch claw on their feet. They eat plants, roots, and seeds as well as insects and lizards. They live in small herds and can live up to 70 years.

The Ostrich is similar to the Australian Emu, both flightless birds, but the Ostrich is larger than the emu. Emus can run up to 50 mph and live between 10 and 20 years.
