Description
I have gone hiking in Red Rock Canyon, just 17 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, many times. But this is the only time I was fortunate enough to come across water that had collected in a pool between the rocks. I was understandably thrilled.
In marked contrast to a town geared to entertainment and gaming, Red Rock offers enticements of a different nature including a 13-mile scenic drive, more than 30 miles of hiking trails, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking, road biking, picnic areas, and nature observing. The unique geologic features, plants and animals of Red Rock represent some of the best examples of the Mojave Desert.
In 1990, special legislation supported by the Nevada congressional delegation, changed the status of the Red Rock Recreation Lands to a National Conservation Area, the seventh to be designated nationally. One million visitors each year enjoy this spectacular desert landscape. But its still possible to get off on ones own, and enjoy this beautiful desert oasis in solitude.

I especially like that you given personal and geographical perspective to the image in the description. Lots of landscapes come without descriptions and just look like hunks of land laying there to me. Is that actually a giant stone sculpture/helmet/skull in the upper left corner? Wait! I think it's Elvis! l, f, WHAT?!
