Description
The Wandering Maiden is always in search of something or someone. Tales say she was left in a cabin when she was just a babe. Left there to fend for herself. Some say the spirits of the forest raised her, for, when she grew older, her hair was long and silky brown and her eyes were the color of pale green. Others say she was never truly alone. She grew up to be the most kind and loveliest maiden in all of creation. But as these stories were passed down throughout the generations, they became twisted and crippled. Lies spread and no one ever dared to go near the cabin because people thought it was cursed by a witch who spread disease and death without her ever taking a single step outside. One day, on a chilly spring morning, she went outside in her big overcoat to pick some fresh fruit out of her garden for supper later that evening. When out from the bushes a group of small children emerged and as soon as they say her they started throwing rocks at her calling her witch and devil spawn. The children came and gone in half a heartbeat. As she lie there, bruised and bleeding, she didn't understand why such small things could have so much hatred towards her. What could she have possibly done to make them hate her so? From then on she thought of protecting herself from the world outside her own, by teaching herself the ways of warriors. To disarm and beat down her opponents without shedding so much as a drop of blood, though she hoped that day would never come. Carving spears and wooden swords, she practiced on trees or rocks found throughout the woods, mastering and perfecting everything she did. Though she had mastered a warriors way she felt confident she could protect herself from anything or anyone but, despite all that, she felt empty inside. Like a piece of her was missing, even though she had everything she could ever possible ask for; beauty, courage, free will, knowledge beyond her years, strength, etc. She wanted more, of what she could not say. So she went out to search for this other half, leaving the safety of her warm cabin she started wandering through the woods, always looking but never finding. As the tale is told, some say, she was looking for the someone who would complete her other half, a long lost lover perhaps or maybe just a friend. Certain tales say she found what she was looking for and lived happily ever after till the day she died. Darker tales that have been told say she never found what she was looking for and died somewhere deep inside the forest only to have her soul continue on, searching. Some say you can still she her ghost in the forest wandering about the earth with no other intent than to find her missing piece.
