Description
In the spirit of Romare Bearden......Collage from magazine cut-outs features the legendary Sonny Stitt on Sax. Best known for his brilliantly colored, stunningly energetic images of Jazz bands and Blues musicians Everett Spruill is destined to be one of the most popular living artists in the United States. His art is unique. It stands alone, without any real comparison. It is an art which has become controversial because Spruill has broken the barriers of many of the most hallowed assumptions of modern art history and contemporary criticism. It is an art that is loved by thousands of people throughout America and around the world.
"Looking at my work one must first deal with a palate of brilliant colors, found objects and recycled materials. Secondly, areas of the works are so fragmented and faceted like a jewel you want to get really close and it's hard not to touch because of the texture. Up close you see the various elements and materials that stand alone but fit together, and at a distance, it falls into focus and is somewhat realistic. At no two distances will the work appear the same. This gives the viewer more room for conjecture, and their interpretation adds to the infinite number of provocative possibilities. In a way, my art mirrors the realities of contemporary society and it's rapidly moving, shifting, and ever-changing paradigms. Most of us can't see the forest for the trees.... oft-times the real truth is never known because we don't take the time to look beneath the surface."
