Description
Sitting under grapevines heavy with fruit is Podagra (also known as gout when it involves the big toe iss a medical condition usually characterized by recurrent attacks of acute inflammatory arthritis - a red, tender, hot, swollen joint) who, though looking like the wise philosopher, personifies the excess represented by Venus (Roman goddess of love, beauty and fertility, Greek counterpart is Aphrodite) and Bacchus who are sitting beside him; below them a tavern scene elucidates the hazards of such abuses.
