Description
This is based on the story the Shinto storm god, Susano'O after he was banished from heaven for tormenting his older sister, the sun goddess, Amaterasu. When he came to Earth, he came across a village that was terrorized by an eight headed/tailed serpent (or dragon depending where you read) called Yamata no Orochi. The great god managed to protect the village and slay the beast. Afterwards, when examining the corpse of the monster, he found, within its tail, the Sword of Kusanagi aka the Murakumo Sword. This great sword he gave to Amaterasu as a gift and asked for her forgiveness. The sword of Kusanagi is one of the three Imperial Regalia of Japan and is said to be found at the Atsuta Shrine in Nagoya.
The snakes here are actually known as Mamushi Vipers and are the deadliest snaked in Japan.
