Photo Of Morning Glory Pool Yellowstone Park Gone Viral

Billings, Mo - June 20th, 2012

Why so much interest with there being thousands of photos of the Morning Glory pool to find? The answer is in part that this one is exceptionally beautiful, but the real reason is that it was taken in 1965 when it was more beautiful than it will ever be again. Yes, I took this at age 17 with an EXA 35mm, the first 35mm SLR ever made, so it is definitely special. I hadn't thought about it until yesterday when I started to look at recent photos that were getting a lot of rave, but weren't nearly so nice as this one. The resolution isn't too high, of course, but you can get a great canvas or print up to about 10.8 by 16 inches. That's big enough, though. The reflections of people observing actually give the photo much better perspective, and the observation deck was much closer back then than most of the time since. You can see other photos for comparison on wiki, but none are this good. Alan Foos
