Description
8 Great hornbills, Buceros bicornus, with yellow and black heads and long curved yellow and red beaks with two separate ovoid casques attached by a short bridge rather than a single horn are shown on a tan, yellow, and red art deco repeating pattern of stacked crosses on a muted orange background surrounded by red and yellow rings in this hornbill art deco mandala. Great Hornbills, Buceros bicornus, (meaning two horns) make their homes in portions of India, Southeast Asia and Nepal. Horns on top of its long curved beak are made up of two separate ovoid casques attached above by a short bridge rather than a single appendage horn found connected to the top of the Rhinoceros hornbill’s bill. Fruit makes up most of this bird’s diet with figs being its favored food. Being hunted for their meat, horns, and feathers has placed them on the “vulnerable” endangered species list!
