Love it.
This was a pleasant little park in a pleasant little village on a delightfully pleasant summer day. But once in a while a picture doesn't tell the true story. This was one of those times.
California was in the midst of a years long drought in 2016. There were wildfires all over the state, including one directly over our heads in this pleasant little park.
Just out of sight to the right of the painting, helicopters were taking off and landing at a small lake, filling their buckets with water and disappearing over the hill behind us, trying to contain a fire. The sky had huge white smoke clouds and the distinctive odor of burning trees.
It all happened after we started painting and ended before we finished. When one spends long hours in nature, dramatic things sometimes occur.
