Looking back to 1976, my wife and I were on an island hopping adventure through the Caribbean. Although we did not stay on Beef Island, we were on the ground for perhaps 20 minutes on what was to be a ten minute stop from St. John in the American Virgin Islands. The aircraft and crew of Liat airlines were very British. The aairport very primitive with a grass airstrip and this the terminal. You will notice a ladder by the automobile. With only one or two flights a day, the station remained closed most of the day. Scheduled flights were met by a "controller" who would drive to the field, climb to the roof copula and give clearance to landing planes. When we landed and taxied to the "gate" we were met by a half dozen passengers most who would be going on to our next island stop. The plane was almost identical to our own Convair 580 seating about 44 passengers. One of the ladies got on and sat in seat ahead of us. She had a wire crate on her lap with a live chicken inside.
