my wife's best friend once said "She can't be bamboozled" and it has been a source of laughter for years. This was the best happy nothing day gift and she wore it the next day to teach high school . Her teenage class had no idea what it meant which she loved.
December morning sun peeks through the clouds to illuminate Zoroaster Temple of the Grand Canyon. This view is from Mohave Point where we can see all the way down to the Colorado River. Weather systems in the Grand Canyon can be sublime. Here we see rain over the North Rim and about ready to pour down on Brahma Temple just behind Zoroaster. I am dedicating this work to my late beloved Grandmother who always encouraged my art and taught me so much as we used to work side by side. The year I graduated high school she released a book she wrote entitled, "Light From The Shadows".
It chronicled her life long volunteer work in mental hospitals where she taught her charcoal brushing technique to depressed patients in order to lift their spirits, and help them recover and get their life back. She always said anyone can do it using her techniques. She was voted Omaha, Nebraska's Woman of the year and Volunteer of the year. I have been in awe of the deserts, mountains, and canyons of the great southwest for over 50 years. Atmospheric events like sunrise and sunsets, approaching storms and monsoon rains, fog and mist, snow, or moonlit nights, just add to the beauty of Arizona and Utah landscapes. This is what inspires a passion within me to capture the mood, drama, and majesty of being there....from being at the foot of a majestic crag or on top of a summit overlooking a distant valley below.
