Description
Inspired by an open call to artists by the Islip Museum for works that reflect the landscape of Long Island painted in an innovative way, I decided to depict Long Island Sound. I simply wanted to create a pun (literary and visual) on the words Long Island Sound. Creating a face out of the view through a window in a L.I. home looking towards Conneticut, showing the boats in the Sound and also to honor Billy Joel for his support of the oyster fishermen of L.I. "The Pianoman," a reference to one of Billy Joel's great tunes, is depicted as a visual pun with the "Long Island Sound." The painting was rejected by the Islip Museum jury because it did not meet the criterion that they set.
